Frequently Asked Questions

What is New Life all about?

We all need hope. Life can be so difficult, resulting in so much suffering in our world. We believe Jesus really is the Way to life, to positive transformation, to renewed hope. As we gather around Him and experience His love for us, we become family and encourage and love one another on the journey. We believe love covers over a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8) and so the focus is on the love of Christ and the new life He brings, not our broken past or our struggling present. We are a “come as you are” church because we believe that we are loved and accepted first and then God transforms us into something new. Click here for more information.

What time is worship service?

New Life worships together on Saturdays. We meet at 9:30 am for a time of Bible study and prayer in small groups of adults, youth and children, and then gather together at 11 am for worship and the weekly teaching.

What do you offer for children on Saturday morning?

Children are a special part of our church family and we value them as full participants in the life of our church. At 9:30 am we have various children’s groups that meet for Bible teaching, crafts, games and much more, led by dedicated teachers and helpers. Under the age of 4, a parent/guardian is asked to accompany the child. At 11:00 am the children join with the adults for worship. There is a parents’ room available in the sanctuary for parents to be with their little children and still be able to participate in the service.

What kind of outreach is the church involved in?

The New Life Neighbourhood Centre is our food bank and resource centre by which thousands have received meal boxes, clothing, hygiene bags, backpacks, Christmas hampers and much more. The Neighbourhood Center has partnered with Tru Potential to provide SLIP (Self-empowerment Livelihood Improvement Program), a program focused on giving people a pathway out of dependency and sustain positive life change. The Neighbourhood Centre also hosts The Hub, a resource centre that provides ongoing coaching, education and support. The New Life children’s department has a Vacation Bible School (VBS) each year that invites community children to participate in a fun week of adventures with God and one another, as well as other weekly activities such as red bags for food collection. New Life church also hosts the In Out of the Cold Program, a homeless shelter, during the winter of 2020-2021.

Do I have to belong to your denomination to attend?

Not at all! In fact many of in our church community come from various church backgrounds. We love with no agenda, you are welcome as you are and God builds up His community in His way and in His timing.

Do I have to dress up to attend your worship service?

Nope. We believe the heart is the most important thing we bring to God in worship. There is no dress code, just come as you are. You will see a variety of people dressed in various ways, what is important is that we show up ready to worship God!

What kind of things do you do in worship service?

We strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at New Life. We see church as the gathering of God’s people, His family, and are not into a lot of formality. We share announcements and news, we love to sing and express love for God, we spend time in prayer and lift up our concerns to God, we take an offering to further God’s work and we tell a story geared for the children. We read the Bible and talk about it during the sermon, and we often spend some time reflecting on what we heard and how it impacts us day to day. Afterwards we make time after the service to connect and share life together.

What is communion? Can visitors take part?

Communion is the name we give for the Lord’s Supper, a celebration we observe periodically, usually a few times a year. Seventh-day Adventists see the Lord’s Supper as comprising the foot-washing Jesus enacted to the church (John 13:1-17) as well as the beautiful symbols of the bread and wine (Matthew 26:26-28). We practice open communion, all who are open to following Jesus are welcome to participate.

What is the Sabbath all about?

Sabbath is a gift that God instituted at Creation. The book of Genesis in the Bible relates the story of how God created the world in six days and on the seventh day He rested (Genesis 2:2-3) and made it holy. It is also one of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:8-11) that reminds us of God as our Creator. Jesus died on the cross on Friday, the sixth day of the week, and rose on Sunday, the first day of the week, and rested in the tomb on Sabbath. Jesus called Himself the Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8). We see Sabbath as one of God’s greatest gifts, a weekly reminder that He is the Creator and Saviour of the world, a day to spend with Him and one another without the worries of the world because God provides.

Who are Seventh-day Adventists?

New Life is part of the global family of over 20 million Seventh-day Adventists. Seventh-day Adventists look to Christ alone for salvation and hold the Bible as the ultimate authority. Seventh-day Adventists are a hopeful people living in the constant expectation of the soon return of Jesus.
